Gias Foods has expanded a recall of Walmart's Bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine from two specific lots to all lot codes because the frozen pasta may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The original September 15 recall covered lots L6079C and L6080C. The October 1 announcement broadens the action to every lot code of the product.

The recalled item is sold nationwide at Walmart in a yellow 22 ounce bag with UPC 194346442706.

The company and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration say no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the product.

The recall followed routine sampling by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which indicated that finished product may contain Listeria.

Gias Foods has stopped distribution while the company and FDA investigate the cause of the potential contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious illness, particularly in pregnant people, older adults, young children and people with weakened immune systems, which is why broadening a recall from selected lots to an entire product run is operationally significant.

The expanded action illustrates how food safety recalls can widen after additional sampling or investigation. Retailers, distributors and consumers now need to treat all lot codes of this Bettergoods Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine as recalled rather than checking only the two numbers named in September.
