More than 77,000 cans of 7UP Tropical are under recall in the United States after some full-sugar soda was packed in cans labeled as Zero Sugar.

The recall covers 3,240 cases, or 77,760 cans, distributed in Utah and produced for Dr Pepper Seven Up by Admiral Beverage Corporation.

The outer 12-pack cases are labeled 7UP Tropical, but some individual cans inside are labeled 7UP Tropical Zero Sugar even though the beverage contains the full-sugar formulation.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified the action as a Class II recall on September 29, meaning exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.

The affected product can be identified by lot code UT06176, UPC 0 78000 03798 2 and a best-by date of March 17, 2027.

The labeling issue is especially relevant to consumers who closely manage sugar intake because regular 7UP Tropical contains about 38 grams of sugar per 12-ounce serving while the Zero Sugar product is labeled as containing none.

Admiral Beverage initiated the recall in August, before the FDA's formal classification, and the action is ongoing.

For beverage manufacturers, the incident highlights how a packaging mismatch can become a food safety and compliance issue even when the underlying product itself is not contaminated.
