Saint Francis Recalls Frozen Pizzas Over Undeclared Soy Allergen
Saint Francis Apizza LLC has recalled four frozen pizza varieties because soy ingredients were not declared on the label. The company announcement was dated October 1 and published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on October 3.
The affected varieties are Pepperoni, Plain Cheese, Supreme, and Mushroom and Onion. The company said the missing declarations involve soy sub-ingredients including soybean oil and soy lecithin.
No illnesses had been reported
The company said there had been no reports of illness involving the recalled products at the time of the announcement. People with a soy allergy or severe sensitivity can nevertheless face serious or potentially life-threatening reactions if they consume a product containing undeclared soy.
The recall is a labeling and allergen-control event rather than evidence of microbial contamination. Products were sold through named retailers in Ohio and Kentucky as well as through online sales.
