ThermoWorks DishTemp at $79: A Practical Guide for Commercial Kitchens

Commercial kitchens need to verify what happens at the surface of washed plates, not merely the temperature displayed by a dish machine or measured in the surrounding water. ThermoWorks designed DishTemp to travel through a cycle with the wares and record the highest surface temperature it experiences.

The product currently sells for $79 in the United States, with lower per unit pricing published for orders of five or more. It is shaped like a small plate, measures five inches across and is 0.55 inches thick. A single power button resets the stored maximum before the next cycle.

What the instrument measures

ThermoWorks specifies a measurement and operating range of 32 to 194 degrees Fahrenheit, or 0 to 90 degrees Celsius, with stated accuracy of plus or minus 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit. The display shows both the current temperature and an irreversible maximum reading for the completed cycle.

That distinction matters in high temperature warewashing. A stem thermometer can move around or measure water rather than the dish surface. Disposable temperature labels can record a threshold, but they create a continuing consumables cost. DishTemp is intended to provide a reusable reading that can be entered into daily logs or shown during an audit.

Durability, documentation and limits

The unit carries an IP66 rating and includes a NIST traceable calibration certificate. ThermoWorks says it complies with the irreversible registering temperature indicator requirement in section 4 703.11(B) of the FDA Food Code. Kitchens should still follow the rules adopted by their own state or local regulator, because the federal Food Code is a model used through local adoption.

The replaceable CR2032 battery is rated for 5,000 hours. The manufacturer provides a one year warranty and lists a wall bracket as an optional accessory. Operators must place the device securely in the rack and reset it before each run, and they should preserve calibration and maintenance records rather than treating the display as a complete sanitation programme.

Agrilinkage has not conducted hands on testing. Based on the published specifications, DishTemp is most relevant to restaurants, institutional kitchens, catering operations and service technicians that perform repeated high temperature dishwasher checks. A low volume kitchen using chemical sanitization or infrequent testing may have different monitoring needs.
