Port Tarragona Congress Puts Agrifood Trade, Biofuels and Logistics on October Agenda

Port Tarragona will host the fifth Agrifood International Congress on October 15 and 16, 2026, at Tinglado 1 on the Moll de Costa. The formal programme opens at 19:00 on October 15 and continues from 09:00 to 14:00 the next day, followed by a networking lunch.

The congress is built around the resilience of the agrifood system in volatile markets. Its agenda connects security of supply with cost efficiency, sustainability with competitiveness, and high level strategic objectives with the operational decisions made by traders, processors, logistics companies and buyers.

An optional visit to the port facilities begins at 17:00 on October 15 before the formal welcome from Port Tarragona and the Catalan government. Economist Xavier Sala i Martin is scheduled to open the substantive programme with a session on geopolitical pressure and agrifood markets.

On October 16, COCERAL Secretary General Iliana Axiotiades will examine how European regulation is changing agrifood trade. That session is especially relevant to grain and feed companies facing new compliance, sourcing and market access requirements across European supply chains.

A second session will look at the competition among food, feed and fuel uses for agricultural raw materials. Speakers include representatives of the Spanish Bioethanol Association, Vertex and ADM Agro Ibérica, giving the discussion a direct commercial link to grain procurement, energy markets and industrial demand.

The programme then moves from policy to operating decisions. A commercial logistics round table includes executives from Bunge, Vall Companys and BonÀrea, with resilience, costs and supply choices at the center of the discussion.

A technical panel will address bottlenecks in agrifood transport with participation from Ership, Grupo Jorge and Port Tarragona. The venue matters because Tarragona describes itself as the Mediterranean's leading agrifood port, making the congress closely tied to real commodity handling and logistics infrastructure.
