J.P. Morgan and Grupo Robinson Plan $200 Million Sustainable Forestry Investment in Paraguay

Updated: Oct 7
J.P. Morgan Natural Capital and Paraguay’s Grupo Robinson are preparing an approximately $200 million investment to build a large-scale sustainable forestry platform in Paraguay, adding a major institutional-capital project to the country’s expanding forest economy.
Paraguay’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce said capital deployment is expected to begin in early 2027. The first phase is expected to develop roughly 20,000 hectares for sustainable production of high-quality timber while also supporting native-forest restoration and carbon-credit generation.
The project combines international investment management with local agricultural and forestry operating experience. Grupo Robinson is expected to contribute local production expertise, while J.P. Morgan Natural Capital brings a global timberland and natural-capital investment platform.
The investment is designed to go beyond plantation establishment. As the forests mature, the partners and Paraguayan authorities envision increasing domestic wood processing so more value is captured inside the country rather than exporting only unprocessed material.
That industrialisation component could make the project relevant to sawmilling, engineered wood, logistics and export supply chains as well as forestry itself. The government also expects the platform to support rural employment and economic activity outside the capital.
Paraguay has been positioning forestry as a strategic investment sector, supported by available land, plantation potential and growing interest in nature-based assets. The $200 million commitment gives that strategy a large institutional investor and a defined path toward commercial-scale production.
