Harpak-ULMA has introduced a family of hygienic robotic loading platforms that integrate robot motion directly into Rockwell Automation's PLC and Logix control environment.

The systems are designed for food applications including cheese, fresh meat and snacks, where robots locate, inspect, pick and load products into packaging operations.

Bringing robot motion and packaging equipment into the same control architecture is intended to reduce the number of separate programming environments plant teams need to maintain.

The platform can be configured around thermoforming, flow wrapping and tray-sealing lines and can scale to high package rates depending on the product and robot configuration.

Harpak-ULMA says the mechanical design uses open, self-draining stainless-steel construction intended for washdown environments and demanding food-sanitation requirements.

Optional two-dimensional and three-dimensional vision can support product location and inspection before items are picked and placed into packs.

The equipment reflects a wider shift in food manufacturing toward robotic handling that is easier for in-house maintenance and controls teams to support rather than depending on a completely separate specialist automation stack.

For processors, the commercial test will be whether integrated controls reduce commissioning, changeover and maintenance complexity enough to justify the capital cost while still meeting speed, sanitation and product-handling requirements.
