Dhanuka Launches Polin Rice Fungicide With FRAC 52 Mode of Action

Updated: Oct 7
Dhanuka Agritech has launched Polin, a new rice fungicide for the Indian market aimed at managing leaf blast and neck blast. The product was developed through the company's technical collaboration with Japan based Nippon Soda and is being positioned as a new chemistry option for paddy growers.
Polin is formulated as a 20 percent suspension concentrate and uses a DHODHI mode of action classified in FRAC Group 52. AgroPages reported that the formulation has both translaminar and systemic movement, characteristics intended to improve coverage beyond the exact point where spray lands on the leaf.
Rice blast remains one of the most economically important fungal diseases in paddy production because infection can damage leaves during crop development and the neck of the panicle closer to grain formation. The practical value of a new mode of action is therefore tied not only to disease control but also to resistance management when growers rotate chemistries appropriately.
Dhanuka is initially promoting the product in Indian rice growing areas including Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Sugar Times reported that the company recommends application at 100 milliliters per acre in 200 liters of water, a use rate that growers should follow only in accordance with the registered label and local agronomic guidance.
The company says Polin is designed for preventive protection and longer persistence. Those performance claims come from the manufacturer and will ultimately be judged by field results across different varieties, disease pressure, weather conditions and application programs.
For crop protection suppliers, the launch is another example of companies emphasizing differentiated modes of action as resistance pressure narrows the useful life of older chemistry. For farmers, the more important question will be how the product fits into an integrated rice blast program rather than whether it can replace rotation, timing and disease monitoring.
