Brenntag has opened a new Nutrition Innovation & Application Center in Jakarta, adding a local technical base for food and beverage manufacturers developing products for Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian market.

The facility is located at The Gallery CIBIS Park and is designed for formulation development, application testing, laboratory analysis, pilot production and technical training. Its most notable piece of processing infrastructure is a UHT pilot plant, allowing manufacturers and supplier partners to test and refine concepts before committing them to full commercial production.

That capability matters because ultra-high-temperature processing is widely used in shelf-stable dairy, plant-based beverages and other liquid food categories where formulation and heat treatment can materially affect flavor, texture, stability and ingredient performance. Running those variables at pilot scale can shorten development cycles and reduce the cost of moving an unproven formulation directly into a production environment.

Brenntag says the Jakarta site will support alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, bakery, confectionery, convenience foods, dairy, meat, poultry and fish processing, nutraceuticals, sauces and condiments, specialized nutrition and plant-based products.

The center also expands Brenntag's global nutrition application network. The company says Jakarta becomes part of a network of 31 Nutrition Innovation & Application Centers, giving local customers access to a broader pool of technical knowledge while keeping product development closer to the market where products will actually be sold.

Indonesia is strategically important because of the size and diversity of its food and beverage sector. For ingredient distributors, local application centers can do more than support sales: they can help customers adapt formulations to local tastes, raw-material availability, processing conditions and regulatory requirements.

The investment also reflects a broader change in ingredient distribution. Large distributors increasingly compete not only on logistics and ingredient access, but on technical services that help customers formulate, troubleshoot and commercialize products faster.

For food manufacturers in Southeast Asia, the practical value of the Jakarta center will depend on how effectively its laboratory and pilot capabilities translate into shorter development timelines and more reliable scale-up. The UHT pilot plant gives Brenntag a particularly relevant tool for beverage and dairy-adjacent categories where process validation can be a major commercialization bottleneck.
