Wisconsin's food, forestry and agriculture exports reached $2.13 billion in the first half of 2026, the highest first-half total on record, according to the state's latest International Agribusiness Center export report.

The total was 5.42% higher than in the same period of 2025 and 10.7% above the state's 2021 baseline. The increase was enough to move Wisconsin into the top 10 U.S. states for agricultural exports, according to the state report.

The performance is notable because it came during a period of continuing trade disruption and tariff uncertainty. State officials said export growth was supported by stronger shipments into major North American markets, particularly Canada and Mexico.

The export mix matters because Wisconsin is not dependent on a single farm commodity. Dairy, meat, processed food, grains, forestry products and other value-added agricultural goods all contribute to the state's trade profile, helping spread exposure across different markets and demand cycles.

For agribusinesses, the record first-half number is less about a single headline than about market resilience. Export growth while trade policy remains unsettled suggests that established regional demand and diversified product categories are still supporting outbound sales.

At the same time, the outlook remains sensitive to tariffs, currency movements and logistics costs. A strong six-month result does not remove those risks, especially for businesses that depend heavily on cross-border supply chains or a narrow group of foreign buyers.

Wisconsin's next test will be whether the momentum continues through the second half of 2026. If it does, the state could finish the year with a broader and more durable export base than it had entering the current period of trade volatility.
