Saudi Arabia’s Tanmiah Food Company and Malaysia’s Tradewinds (M) Berhad are exploring a regional halal protein platform that could combine imports, local processing and wider Asia-Pacific distribution.

The companies signed a 12-month memorandum of understanding on September 24 during the Malaysia International Halal Showcase in Kuala Lumpur. Tanmiah disclosed the agreement through the Saudi Exchange, while a company statement released on September 28 outlined the commercial areas under consideration.

The initial framework covers production, sourcing, importation, further processing, branding and distribution of halal protein products in Malaysia and across the wider Asia-Pacific region. The agreement is exploratory rather than a final investment commitment.

One of the most significant options under review is a joint investment in a Malaysian further-processing facility. The partners are also assessing whether Malaysian production capacity could serve as a regional base for exports into other Asia-Pacific markets.

The companies also plan to examine imports of Saudi-produced poultry into Malaysia, subject to regulatory approvals. Malaysian reporting around the agreement indicates that commercial market entry would precede any larger physical investment.

Tanmiah is a vertically integrated poultry and food producer with farms, hatcheries, feed mills and primary processing plants in Saudi Arabia. Tradewinds brings an established Malaysian food portfolio and regional distribution presence, giving the proposed partnership a combination of upstream production and market access.

The strategic logic is broader than a bilateral poultry deal. Malaysia has an established halal certification ecosystem and sits inside a large Southeast Asian consumer market, while Tanmiah is seeking to expand exports and build a wider presence outside the Gulf.

No investment value, factory location or binding construction timetable has been announced. For now, the agreement creates a route to test demand, regulatory access and processing economics before the companies decide whether to commit capital to a Malaysian production platform.
