Saudi Arabia says domestic poultry production has exceeded 1.4 million tonnes and self-sufficiency has risen above 80%, while a new round of investment agreements is adding more capital to production, processing and supply chains.

At the Middle East Poultry Expo in Riyadh, 27 agreements were signed with a combined value exceeding SAR2.574 billion, or about $686 million. The agreements are aimed at developing the poultry sector, improving production efficiency, strengthening supply chains and expanding investment partnerships.

Investment is following a much larger domestic production base

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has been positioning poultry as a strategic food-security sector, combining financing, local production targets, biosecurity, processing capacity and technology adoption. The ministry’s latest sector figures put output above 1.4 million tonnes and self-sufficiency above 80%.

The Riyadh expo brought together more than 400 companies and organizations from 45 countries, giving equipment, feed, animal-health and processing suppliers direct access to a market that is still adding capacity.

The next test is execution

Signing agreements does not mean every project is already built or operating. The commercial impact will depend on how much of the announced investment reaches farms, feed mills, hatcheries, processing plants, cold-chain infrastructure and technology deployment.

What is already clear is that Saudi poultry is moving beyond a simple import-substitution story. The combination of high domestic output, state-backed sector development and private investment is building a larger regional production and processing base.
