Deano's Pasta Recalls Ravioli in Massachusetts Over Undeclared Lobster Allergen

Deano's Pasta of Somerville, Massachusetts is recalling approximately 20 pounds of Pear and Pecorino Triangoli Ravioli because the product may contain undeclared lobster, creating a serious risk for consumers with crustacean shellfish allergies.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration posted the company announcement on September 24. The frozen ravioli was distributed to retail stores in Massachusetts between August 10 and September 22.

Affected product

The recall covers one pound bags of Deano's Pasta Pear and Pecorino Triangoli Ravioli with lot codes 090126126, 082526126, 081826126 and 073126126. The lot code appears on the product label beneath the best by date.

No illnesses had been reported when the recall was announced. According to the company, a customer complaint led to an internal audit that found product containing lobster had been distributed in packaging that did not declare the allergen.

Deano's Pasta said its investigation traced the issue to a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes. Consumers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to crustacean shellfish should not consume the affected ravioli and are being advised to return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
